We are sad to announce the passing of PDG Vanessa Stanley’s mother, Mrs. Gladys Satterwhite on Friday, March 10, 2017. PDG Stanley serves in District 18L and is a member of the Atlanta Metro Lions Club. Funeral services for Mrs. Satterwhite will be held on Friday, March 17th at 11:00 am at the Fort Street United Methodist Church, 562 Boulevard NE, Atlanta, GA 30308. Viewing will be from 10:00-11:00 am at the church prior to the service. Young Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Gladys Maud Jackson Satterwhite, 84, of Atlanta, was born on January 13, 1933 in Moultrie, GA to the late Elizabeth Mathis Jackson and Richard Rhump. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Flue Athers Satterwhite. They were married for 49 years until his passing in 2012. She was educated in the Colquitt County Public School System and attended Morris Brown College. She was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
She was a member of Fort Street United Methodist Church and was very active with the Fort Street United Methodist Women chapter, serving twice as president. She was also instrumental in the creation of the first nursery for the church. She loved children and ran Satterwhite’s Day Care for over 25 years. She was an advocate for senior citizens, transporting them to doctor appointments and making sure that they had plenty to eat. She was also known for decorating and opening her home for each holiday, cooking for neighborhood children and baking pound cakes.
She is survived by her daughter, Vanessa Stanley, brother, Eddie J. Jackson, Sr., sister, Marie Walker (Zack), brothers-in-law, George A. Satterwhite II and W.T. Adams (also a member of the Atlanta Metro Lions Club), sisters-in-law, Shirley Jackson and W. Mae Satterwhite, and a host of other relatives.
